The Embassy of Finland’s development cooperation in Namibia is focusing in the concessional credits, civil society support (Local Cooperation Fund), support through Finnish NGOs and the institutional cooperation
Finland's objectives of the Development Cooperation are based on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) with an overall aim of alleviation of widespread poverty. Special attention is given to prevention of global environmental threats, promotion of equality, human rights and democracy, increasing global security and economic interaction. The annual grant support to Namibia is about 50 million NAD.
Strengthening the capacity of the countries like Namibia to participate and benefit from the international trade is a key for these countries to achieve viable economic growth and increased employment. It is important to recognize that economic growth is sustainable only when it is both environmentally and socially sustainable.
Embassy of Finland seeks to support the supply and trade capacity of Namibia for Namibia’s better integration to the regional and global economy and to strengthen and diversify private sector development by promoting trade and investments between Finnish and Namibian enterprises.
The Finnish cooperation with the Walvis Bay Corridor Group is line with the above mentioned principles. The support is based on the Group’s existing plans to promote 21 corridor projects. The Finnish support will be used to setting up a system for gathering data from existing sources and using it for future economic analyses along the Trans Cunene and Trans Caprivi Corridors.
In addition the Walvis Bay Corridor Group and the Embassy of Finland will plan the co-financed fact finding mission to Finland for further in depth discussions and site visits to relevant institutions in Finland such as harbor development, high tech solutions and shipyards. The Finnish contribution to the both above mentioned activities is totally about 500 000 NAD.
