Africascan speaks to the Swedish Trade Council in Namibia about ‘Meeting Point’ and what the concept means for future business relations between Sweden and Namibia, when the Swedish Embassy in Windhoek closes down on October 15. “We will keep the Swedish flag flying here,” says Karin Sundby, Country Manager for The Swedish Trade Council in Namibia. “The Swedish presence will stay, but it will have a different focus.” The Namibian model is likely a blueprint for what's to come in general Swedish-African relations as several Swedish embassies are closing down here.

Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen stresses the application of new instruments in Finland's development cooperation. "In Namibia the new means of our development cooperation have been received extremely well, and they have yielded positive results." This came out when Väyrynen met with Nahas Angula, Prime Minister of Namibia, during his visit to Namibia on 16-17 October. "Finland has a selection of instruments available for use, by means of wide-ranging partnerships, to support development in Namibia now and in future.

Final phase out of all Namibian manual passports and stoppage of applications of Namibian passports and travel documents by third part
This memo serves to inform you that all Namibian manual passports currently in circulation shall be phased out by 28 February 2009 and any such passports which by that day have still not expired will be considered invalid and will not be honoured for travel or other purposes.
